The global economy is in the depths of recession. Organizations from virtually every industry, including manufacturing and service, have responded by reducing expenses and cutting operational costs. Health care restructuring is one result of the new economy. Hospitals worldwide have been flattening organizational charts and reducing costs. Downsizing, rightsizing, restructuring--whatever term is used, the message is the same: people are a cost to be reduced.
