The quality of institutional administration and the competence of its academic leaders are considered to be crucial elements in the continued progress of optometric education. Educational leadership to meet the need for ongoing, guided, systematic educational planning is underscored. Such planning, in turn, depends significantly on the emerging role definition of the optometrist as a primary care practitioner.
