The role of lasers in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

This paper reviews the types of laser available for use in oral and maxillofacial surgery and discusses the indications, contraindications, advantages, disadvantages and potential hazards of their use. Preliminary reports of research projects into carbon dioxide laser penetration depth into mucosa and also results of treatment of a series of 20 patients with a variety of mucosal problems will be discussed.
