Incarcerated subhallucal sesamoid of the great toe: irreducible dislocation of the interphalangeal joint of the great toe by an accessory sesamoid bone.

A case of irreducible dislocation of the interphalangeal joint of the great toe caused by interposition of the subhallucal sesamoid bone is described. The pitfalls of diagnosis and treatment of this uncommon dislocation are described, together with a historical review of the literature.
