Isolation and characterisation of a murine picornavirus.

Cytopathic changes were observed in uninoculated primary cultures of mouse embryo fibroblasts. A virus resembling a picornavirus was isolated from the cultures. The virus produced cytopathic changes in mouse embryo fibroblast, chicken embryo fibroblast and Vero cell cultures. It was pathogenic for suckling mice and for chick embryos. Neutralising antibodies against the virus were present in animals of the parent colony.
