The cytologic detection of follicular carcinoma is a main problem of fine needle aspiration biopsy of the thyroid. Benign conditions of the thyroid showing microfollicular structure as follicular adenoma, nodular hyperplasia in adenomatous goiter and adenoma-like proliferations induced by antithyroidal drugs are to be distinguished from follicular carcinoma. Surgical biopsy should be performed, when cytologic findings indicate follicular proliferation of the thyroid.
滤泡状癌的细胞学检测是甲状腺细针穿刺活检的一个主要问题。甲状腺的良性病变，如表现为微滤泡结构的滤泡性腺瘤、腺瘤性甲状腺肿中的结节性增生以及抗甲状腺药物引起的腺瘤样增生，都需要与滤泡状癌相鉴别。当细胞学检查结果提示甲状腺滤泡样增生时，应进行手术活检。
