Stomatherapy can be defined as specialist care given to patients who undergo surgery with construction of a colostomy, ileostomy or urinary conduit. The role of the stomatherapist is outlined and the stomatherapy techniques and appliances used by the Groote Schuur Hospital Stomatherapy Service are described.
