The author investigated the effect of mere trabeculectomy on the reduction of intraocular pressure (IOP) and on changes of antiglaucomatous treatment six months after operation. A total of 68 eyes were operated, 24 eyes with open angle glaucoma (POAG), 24 with angular glaucoma (PACG), 4 eyes with capsular glaucoma (CG) and 16 eyes with secondary glaucoma. Six months after operation a drop of IOP by 18.2 mm Hg was recorded, the mean postoperative pressure was 12.6 mm Hg. In all operated patients the author recorded a mean reduction by two drugs used for treatment. The postoperative level is maintained between 12 and 13 mm Hg in 42 eyes without therapy (62%), in the remaining 26 eyes (38%) the mean IOP is 14.9 mm Hg with a mean postoperative therapy of 1.3 drug. When comparing the effect of operation in eyes with POAG and PACG there is a more marked decline in eyes with PACG.
