30 stumps of the uterine vessels during abdominal hysterectomy were excised with the ligature 10 to 20 minutes after the original ligature. Inspite of the ligature the most important mechanism of hemostasis is an occlusive thrombosis in the lumen of the vessels. In this process damage of the wall of the vessel and the endothelium is very important.
