Complications in implant-supported overdentures.

Implant-supported overdentures have been advocated as an effective treatment option for edentulism. When compared with implant-retained fixed prostheses, clinicians may find them to be technically easier to provide. However, there are complications unique to overdentures that can be encountered before, during, and after the restoration phases. Managing these complications may require extra chair time and additional cost. This article discusses potential problems associated with the use of implant-supported overdentures and how to minimize these problems, and emphasizes the need for restorative informed consent.
