Chondroblastoma is a rare benign tumor, and reports on its cytologic features are scant. To clarify its cytologic appearance, we report a case along with immunohistochemical and electron microscopic findings.
A 23-year-old male presented with a pain in his left knee, and a plain roentgenogram revealed an osteolytic lesion in the distal epiphysis of the femur. Curettage of the tumor was performed with clinical diagnosis of giant cell tumor of bone. Imprint smears showed sheetlike clusters of mononuclear tumor cells with scattered, osteoclastlike giant cells. Chondroid matrix was focally observed among the cell clusters. The histologic appearance was a conventional one, with focal chondroid matrix formation. Immunohistochemically, mononuclear tumor cells were diffusely positive for S-100 protein.
Cytologic features of condroblastoma are sheetlike clusters of mononuclear cells, scattered osteoclastlike giant cells and focal chondroid matrix formation. Immunohistochemical demonstration of S-100 protein in mononuclear cells helps to make a correct diagnosis.

一名23岁男性因左膝疼痛就诊,X线平片显示股骨远端骨骺有溶骨性病变。临床诊断为骨巨细胞瘤,遂行肿瘤刮除术。印片涂片显示单核肿瘤细胞呈片状聚集,散在分布有破骨样巨细胞。在细胞簇中可见局灶性软骨样基质。组织学表现为典型的,有局灶性软骨样基质形成。免疫组化显示,单核肿瘤细胞弥漫性表达S-100蛋白。
软骨母细胞瘤的细胞学特征为单核细胞片状聚集、散在的破骨样巨细胞和局灶性软骨样基质形成。单核细胞中S-100蛋白的免疫组化显示有助于做出正确诊断。
