Ambulatory surgery in the hospital does not reduce the number of hospital beds. Available cases are rare. Patients eligible for office-based surgery are mostly already operated in offices and larger outpatient units. The legal situation regarding postoperative responsibility is difficult. The fees for ambulatory surgery are low and represent no incentive for hospitals and doctors.
