The use of a Codman bolt is described in a 14-year-old head-injured boy. The benefits of the Codman bolt in permitting titration of nursing actions against rises in intracranial pressure are highlighted. Arguments for retaining head injury patients in a general ICU with intracranial pressure monitoring are weighed against the dangers of transfer.
