A checklist for preventing late complications of acute eyelid trauma should include recognizing injury to the globe, preventing infection, and achieving proper coaptation of the wound margins. Recognition and immediate management of lacrimal, canthal, and levator injuries and occult orbital foreign bodies may prevent late complications that are more difficult to repair.
