Abstract
An analysis is made of the new techniques used in the surgical treatment of portal hypertensión, specially the selective descompression of the gastroesophageal varices. A case is presented of surgery performed in the Surgical Service IV of the Hospital Universitario de Caracas using the technique described by Warren.
