The effects of technology on relatives in critical care environments.

Technology has both good and bad effects and is both the cause of and solution to many problems. Demonstrating a clear understanding of and competence with technology is one important way in which staff can foster relatives' confidence and trust. A number of emotional and behavioural responses to technology in spouses are highlighted. Fear, curiosity and security are relevant to relative's perceptions and responses.
