In response to growing concerns about the quality of medical care, physicians and physician organizations are increasingly turning to practice parameters as a possible solution. This article describes recent efforts by the American Medical Association and others to develop, evaluate, and implement medical practice parameters, and provides an overview of the possible legal implications raised by the use of practice parameters.
