As local, state, and federal policy makers seek additional sources of revenue to help finance health care and other services, the distinction between for-profit and not-for-profit healthcare organizations is receiving increased scrutiny. Healthcare financial managers and consultants should prepare to defend their organizations against those seeking to demonstrate that, at the very least, there is no substantive difference between not-for-profit and for-profit providers.
