Abstract
In a 1988 article in Physician Executive, Bonbrest recorded the number of women members (74) of the American College of Physician Executives (then the American Academy of Medical Directors) and urged senior managers to facilitate the entry of women physicians and minorities into management positions. This article relates historical trends for women in medicine and medical management and calls for increased attention to the slowness with which advancement for women has been achieved.
