The Texas Hospital Association's (THA's) nearly 600 member hospitals in 1977 formed a statewide productivity center in response to rising labor costs, excess services and beds, uneven personnel allocation, activity duplication, and delinquent accounts. By developing and applying scientific standards formulas, and programs difficult for individual hospitals to implement, the center has increased productivity and cut costs.
