Medical staff merger: a follow-up case study.

The November 1979 issue of The Hospital Medical Staff contained the article "A Blueprint for Medical Staff Consolidation," in which a mechanism was described for consolidation of the medical staffs of two merging hospitals, Deaconess Hospital of Buffalo and The Buffalo General Hospital. An organizational framework was outlined that included the adoption of common principles of consolidation, common bylaws, a common cross-credentialling mechanism, and a transitional organizational format. The following article describes the implementation of that plan.
