Medicare program; economic index for physicians' services for the period July 1, 1982 through June 30, 1983--HCFA. Notice.

This notice sets forth the economic index used in the calculation of prevailing charges for physicians' services under Part B of Medicare (title XVIII of the Social Security Act). The Medicare statute and regulations require that the calculation of these charges be subject to a limit based on appropriate indicators of economic changes. The economic index used for this purpose is 1.949 for the period July 1, 1982 through June 30, 1983. This is an increase of 8.88 percent over the economic index of 1.790 that was used for the previous 12 months.
