On September 30, 1982, we published an interim final notice with comment period that set forth a schedule of limits on the hospital inpatient operating costs that may be reimbursed under Medicare for cost reporting periods beginning on or after October 1, 1982. These limits implemented changes in the Medicare law that were made by section 101(a) of the Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 1982 (TEFRA), Pub. L. 97-248. The interim final notice provided a 60-day period for public comment. This final notice responds to the comments received and sets forth revisions and corrections to the interim final notice.
