Up to 40,000 young people in the UK may be caring for a sick or elderly relative but they may not be getting the support they deserve for themselves. This article suggests that health professionals and teachers do not always recognise the problems that young carers face, so cannot support them. The author recommends further training for these professionals to increase their awareness of young carers' needs.
