Achilles tendon rupture. Diagnosis and management.

Achilles tendon rupture is one of the most common tendon failures that affects the lower extremity. Several podiatric and orthopedic publications discuss the various treatment options for this rupture. This review intends to increase the physician's awareness of risk factors that contribute to Achilles tendon rupture and of how these factors should be considered in the decision-making process. By performing a comprehensive history and physical examination, the treating physician can select the most appropriate procedure or technique and maximize the patient's functional outcome.
