Diabetic nephropathy leads to chronic renal failure in 30-40% of diabetic patients. By offering primary health care and teaching patients with diabetic nephropathy about factors which influence their renal function, we can delay the renal deterioration and therefore the start of the renal replacement therapy. By learning to control their blood pressure, blood glucose and diet they will be fully aware of their health problem, avoid possible complications and last but not least they will possibly achieve more time. The nephrology nurse is capable of making a difference by offering advanced nursing care and being the patient's teacher and supporter.
糖尿病肾病会导致30%-40%的糖尿病患者出现慢性肾衰竭。通过提供初级卫生保健并向糖尿病肾病患者传授影响其肾功能的因素，我们可以延缓肾脏恶化，从而推迟肾脏替代治疗的开始。通过学习控制血压、血糖和饮食，患者将充分了解自己的健康问题，避免可能出现的并发症，最后但同样重要的是，他们可能会获得更多的生存时间。肾病科护士能够通过提供高级护理服务以及成为患者的教师和支持者来发挥作用。
