The value of a new differential diagnostic nutrient medium was tested on 360 urines from urological patients. Simultaneously every urine specimen was examined according to classical bacteriological differential methods and colony counting. In 137 sterile urines there was agreement between the two methods in approximately 93%. On the basis of colony counting 96% of the 223 urinary tract infections could be diagnosed with the new test. Differentiation of the infecting organisms was possible in 71% of the infections.
