References attached to any piece of work, whether it is published or is part of an assignment, demonstrate the range of knowledge and level of thinking invested by the author in the article. The British Standards Institution (BSI 1989) defines a reference as a set of data describing a document, sufficiently precise and detailed to identify it and enable it to be located. The accuracy and completeness of references ensures that readers will be able to locate the material as easily as possible.
