Of 220 patients with Hodgkin's disease 117 (53%) who also had mediastinal and hilar lymph-node involvement were followed between 1958 and 1971. In 13 (11%) intrathoracic involvement was the first manifestation of the tumour. In 73 patients it was in stage I or II (Rye) at time of diagnosis. Treatment consisted of irradiation and/or multiple chemotherapy. Altogether 45% survived five years and 27% ten years. However, there was no patient who was free of recurrence after ten years, i.e. none can be considered as potentially cured.
