In vitro perfusion of the canine prostate.

An experimental model has been developed for perfusing intact canine prostates in vitro. The glands maintain normal anatomic and histologic appearance and function in a physiologic fashion. Estradiol has been shown to augment testosterone uptake by the prostatic cell. The implications of these findings are discussed.
