Incidence of tuberculosis and of diseases caused by it in Lódź on the turn of 19th century was higher than in other European cities. Only from the end of the First World War the rate of incidents of this disease was recorded to fall. The fact that a prevailing number of the affected patients constituted Jewish working class made many Jewish physicians give themselves up to fight this disease. Besides the most eminent one - Seweryn Sterling, appear the names of Ludwik Przedborski, Jakub Polakow, Aleksander Margolis and his wife Anna, and many others. The physicians' circle in Lódź was leading in organizing an action against tuberculosis in Poland. The report presents successes of this group, and particularly the role of Seweryn Sterling in this fight.
