The background for and development of one of the country's largest X-Ray departments is illustrated by emphasizing the most important progress in the last 1/3 of the century which has passed since the discovery of X-ray. Odense University and School of Radiography are mentioned for the important part they have played in the progress which has brought the X-ray Department in Odense up to the same high level as the other big X-ray departments in Denmark with regard to diagnosis and teaching. A few plans for the future are mentioned.
