The article illustrates the special problems of endocrinology in childhood, where disturbances of growth and development may be explained by disorders of the endocrine organs. To-day, as a result of early diagnosis and effective treatment the understanding of the spontaneous course of some classical endocrine disorders in children is known essentially from historical descriptions. This article also describes the historical development of childhood endocrinology in Denmark.
