Investigations on the biodistribution of 99mTc-BPHA in normal and probenecid treated mice and a comparison with 99mTc-DTPA injected mice suggested that 99mTc-BPHA is also a glomerular filtration agent. Whole body radioactivity measurements in mice and rabbits after administration of 99mTc-BPHA showed negligible whole body radioactivity at 24 h. Excellent kidney images both in rabbits and a human volunteer were obtained. The significance of higher GFR estimates using 99mTc-BPHA compared to 99mTc-DTPA is discussed.
