For the application of infusion solutions the subclavian catheter is best suited. The sometimes serious complications resulting from it can only be avoided by exact insertion technique and observation of the contraindications. In rare cases the vena-cava-inferior catheter serves as an alternative access. For short-term infusions and in the case of non-occurring circulation centralisation arm and leg venipuncture can be applied. Due to frequent complications and difficulties arising during insertion the brachial vein catheter is contraindicated.
