The use of a colonic conduit for urinary diversion has a definite place as a salvage procedure after an unsuccessful ileal conduit, ureterosigmoidostomy, rectal bladder substitutes, or vesicobaginorectal fistulas. Under these conditions, correction by means of a colonic conduit has been accomplished in eight patients. A colonic conduit is a safe surgical procedure due to its low mortality and complication rates. It also alleviates some of the pitfalls of the ileal conduit, such as free reflux of urine and stomal stenoses.
