Incorporation of labelled retinol in bovine spermatazoa. II. Effect of calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium on the incorporation, in vitro.

A study of the effect of different concentrations of the bulk cations, calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium, as additives, on the incorporation of 3H retinol in bovine spermatozoa, in vitro, is described. Five different levels of these cations were chosen and added separately. It was found that maximum incorporation of vitamin A was obtained by the addition of (mg/100 ml): Ca++ 34, Mg++18, K+432 and Na+164.5, to the incubating medium.
