Diagnostic imaging of prostatic disease has undergone substantial changes over the years, largely thanks to the improvements in the technological devices used. In order to increase the predictive value of ultrasound for the diagnosis of prostatic carcinoma, a series of new methods have been introduced, such as computerized analysis, color and power Doppler, ultrasound contrast media and, most recently, 3D digital scanning. Aim of this work is to assess the efficacy of these techniques as regards diagnosis, staging and follow-up of prostatic carcinoma.
