"According to data of the [Netherlands] Ministry of Justice the number of asylum requests amounted to 52.6 thousand in 1994, 17.2 thousand or almost 50% more than in 1993....A quarter of the total number of asylum seekers in 1994 had a nationality of one of the former Yugoslav republics, followed by persons from Iran (12%), Somalia (10%) and the former Soviet Union (9%).... In 1994 the number of expelled non-Dutch nationals amounted to 31.2 thousand, 11 thousand more than the 1993 level. From this group, 13.3 thousand persons were asylum seekers...." (SUMMARY IN ENG)
