[Surgical repair of transposition of great arteries with intact ventricular septum].

OBJECTIVE

To study the surgical management of transposition of the great arteries with intact ventricular septum (TGA/IVS).

METHODS

Twelve patients with TGA/IVS were underwent repair during August 1999-December 2001. Senning procedure was used for age more than 2 months and switch operation for less than 1 month.

RESULTS

Three patients with TGA/IVS underwent repair by Senning procedure. Nine patients received switch operation and one died of single coronary artery. All patients were followed up about 2 months to 2 years and the result was satisfactory.

CONCLUSIONS

TGA/IVS must be diagnosed and repaired as early as possible. The best age for switch operation is less than 2 weeks or at best less than 1 month.
