Experiments were conducted on 40 dogs; one lobe of teh thyroid gland or one lobe and 2/3 of the other lobe were removed. There was no gain in weight of the remaining lobe, or of the residue of the gland's lobe. Recovery of the thyroid gland function by hypertrophy of the thyroid epithelium in its remaining portion was achieved by hyperplasia of the intracellular structures.
对40只狗进行了实验；切除甲状腺的一个叶或一个叶以及另一个叶的2/3。剩余叶或腺体叶的残余部分没有重量增加。通过细胞内结构的增生，甲状腺上皮细胞肥大实现了甲状腺功能的恢复。
