This commentary offers a critique of cross-cultural comparisons of health care systems between the United States and less economically developed nations. Two main issues are discussed: the abuse of power in such comparisons and the reluctance of nurses from the United States to address conditions of suffering in their own country. Recommendations are given to increase sensitivity of nurses.
