Depressive disorders are often met in the elderly, its course is usually protracted and outcome sometimes fatal. The purpose of this study is evaluation of efficacy and tolerance of mirtazapine in this group of patients. 24 patients (mean age 73.8) with major depressive episode (> 20 in 17-tem HAMD; also CGI scale was used for evaluation) without psychotic features were treated with mirtazapine (30-45 mg) for 6 months.
Improvement (especially such symptoms as better mood and sleep, less anxiety) could be seen in 75% of patients.
