In his later years, the Norwegian/Danish scholar and author Ludvig Holberg (1684 - 1754) wrote 937 epigrams in the style of the Roman poet Martial, and like Martial, in Latin. In 20 to 30 of his epigrams, Holberg writes about doctors and disease. He is extremely sceptical about his contemporary medici, mocks them and accuses them of ignorance and greed. He probably expressed a widely held view of doctors in his time.
