A report of the Health Council of the Netherlands concerning home care for patients with cancer contains conditions required for the shift from hospital care to home care, but securing the maintainance of the quality of care. A new style of oncology outpatient clinic is proposed, which enables the general practitioner to provide for consultation tailored to the needs of these particular patients. This proposal has organizational and financial consequences.
