Abstract
The purpose of this essay is to provide dentists with a brief overview of the unprecedented progress now being made in the biomedical sciences. Several examples are presented that show the potential of such advances to influence general and specialty practice over the next 10-25 years in prevention, diagnosis and treatment. It is important for dentists and dentistry to prepare for this occurrence.
