OBJECTIVE
To investigate the effectiveness and feasibility of extracorporeal photochemotherapy (ECP) in the treatment of an autoimmune disease with known cutaneous photosensitivity.
METHODS
Ten patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) were treated with ECP in an open clinical trial. The efficacy of treatment was analyzed by means of established disease activity scores.
RESULTS
Eight patients completed the trial. In 7 of the 8, there was a significant response to the treatment, with no or minor side effects. The clinical activity score in the group of 8 patients decreased from a median of 7 (range 4-9) to a median of 1 (range 0-5) (P less than 0.05). Laboratory abnormalities did not change significantly, but were mild at the outset.
CONCLUSION
ECP led to clinical improvement of SLE without side effects. The effectiveness of this method should be investigated further in controlled clinical trials.
目的
探讨体外光化学疗法（ECP）治疗已知有皮肤光敏性的自身免疫性疾病的有效性和可行性。
方法
在一项开放性临床试验中，对10例系统性红斑狼疮（SLE）患者采用ECP治疗。通过既定的疾病活动评分分析治疗效果。
结果
8例患者完成试验。在这8例中的7例，对治疗有显著反应，无或有轻微副作用。8例患者组的临床活动评分从中位数7（范围4 - 9）降至中位数1（范围0 - 5）（P小于0.05）。实验室异常情况无显著变化，但一开始就较轻。
结论
ECP使SLE临床症状改善且无副作用。该方法的有效性应在对照临床试验中进一步研究。
