Abstract

OBJECTIVE

The study aims to investigate the changes of interleukin (IL)-17 in induced sputum, and to observe the correlation between concentrations of IL-17 and the number of inflammatory cells in induced sputum in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and in asthma.

METHODS

Induced sputum was obtained in patients with COPD both during acute exacerbation and stable stage and in asthma during acute attack. Healthy nonsmoking volunteers were included as controls. The concentrations of IL-17 in induced sputum were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.

RESULTS

The concentrations of IL-17 both in patients with COPD during acute exacerbation and with asthma were significantly higher than that in the control subjects (P < 0.001). The levels of IL-17 in patients with COPD during acute exacerbation positively correlated with that of IL-8 (r = 0.381, P = 0.038) and with the percentage of neutrophils (r = 0.446, P = 0.010) respectively. There was also a positive correlation between the concentrations of IL-17 and the numbers of eosinophils in patients with asthma.

CONCLUSION

The concentrations of IL-17 in patients with acute exacerbation of COPD and in patients with asthma were significantly increased. IL-17 may play a role in the airway inflammation in both COPD and asthma.

目的

本研究旨在调查诱导痰中白细胞介素(IL)-17的变化,并观察慢性阻塞性肺疾病(COPD)和哮喘患者诱导痰中IL-17浓度与炎症细胞数量之间的相关性。

方法

获取COPD患者急性加重期和稳定期以及哮喘患者急性发作期的诱导痰。纳入健康非吸烟志愿者作为对照。采用酶联免疫吸附测定法测量诱导痰中IL-17的浓度。

结果

COPD急性加重期患者和哮喘患者诱导痰中IL-17的浓度均显著高于对照组(P < 0.001)。COPD急性加重期患者IL-17水平分别与IL-8水平(r = 0.381,P = 0.038)和中性粒细胞百分比(r = 0.446,P = 0.010)呈正相关。哮喘患者中IL-17浓度与嗜酸性粒细胞数量之间也存在正相关。

结论

COPD急性加重期患者和哮喘患者中IL-17的浓度显著升高。IL-17可能在COPD和哮喘的气道炎症中起作用。
