Alcohol and the adverse effects of its excessive consumption were well recognized and documented in ancient history, especially in Biblical writings. This article tries to highlight the fact that even though the consequences of alcohol misuse were recognized in the prehistoric age, it took mankind a long time to make any real progress in providing help to those individuals who are affected.
