Unstructured interviews offer a potential source of rich data in nursing research. In this paper, Terence McCann and Eileen Clark examine the challenges presented when unstructured interviews are used with participants who have schizophrenia. They consider unstructured interviewing in the context of an Australian study of how community mental health nurses promote wellness with clients who are experiencing an early episode of schizophrenia.
